Ts memoir (27pp) based upon diary notes covering her experiences as a housewife from Hornchurch, Essex, during the First World War, illustrating the ways in which a family learnt to adapt to the demands of war, and including interesting references to the initial hoarding and later scarcity of food, her involvement in war work for the local Women's Association, the increased demand for war news, what she perceives as an element of self-interest within much patriotism, the alleged inhumanity of the Germans, munitions work and the increased use of female labour, bombing raids and civil defence measures, the shooting down of a Zeppelin and references to Lieutenant W Leefe Robinson VC, the spreading of false air raid alarms by burglars, profiteering on the black market, and the war damage sustained by Ramsgate, together with 3 ts/ms poems (4pp) and a photograph.
