Papers relating to his service on the Western Front (1917 - 1919) with 11th Battalion Middlesex Regiment, 36th Infantry Brigade (1917) and 4th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, 63rd Infantry Brigade (1918), comprising brigade orders and reports (22pp) for raids on the Arras front (February 1917) and at Rossignol Wood (April 1918) with 2 sketch maps of the trench defences (February 1917); a testimonial issued to him by the commanding officer of 14th Battalion Middlesex Regiment (March 1916) and officers protection certificate issued to him on disembarkation (March 1919); together with 4 ms letters (7pp) to him from his wife in Wimbledon (August 1917 and September 1918) covering family matters, and 30 aerial trench photographs to accompany the raid reports. Also with the collection are 3 ms letters (7pp) to him from his son, P B Maynard, a trainee at Britannic House, Moorgate, London (December 1940) describing the Blitz on the City with excellent details of conditions following the raid of 29 December and other raids which he witnessed.
