Navigating Officer's Note Book that he used as a Sub Lieutenant and containing an ms minute by minute record which he kept at his action station in the transmitting station of HMS LION, the flagship of the Battle Cruiser Fleet, during the Battle of Jutland, 31 May - 1 June 1916, and on some subsequent unidentified occasions, giving details of the ship's firing and ammunition expenditure; ms notes (5 folios) on HMS LION's letterhead prepared by him from the minute by minute record and identifying points of particular interest affecting LION's transmitting station at Jutland; ms letter to his brother after the Battle of Dogger Bank (3pp, dated 6 February [1915]) giving a good impression of his feelings during the battle at his action station deep in the bowels of HMS LION; Christmas card (1914) and a concert programme (May 1915) from HMS LION; ms diary kept while serving in HMS CERES in the Baltic (47pp, dated 29 November 1918-17 April 1919) chiefly recording private matters, but including some interesting professional comment on his ship's deployment, the qualities of his fellow wardroom officer, and his reactions to the complexities of the political and military situation in the Baltic; ms letter to his mother (6pp, dated 28 January 1920) and a ts report (4pp, dated 11 February 1920) written while serving in HMS CERES at the time of the evacuation of Odessa, giving a first-hand account of the final stages of the fighting in South Russia, including interesting references to the plight of the refugees, the short-comings of the White Russians, and the brutality of the Bolsheviks.
