Photocopied ts transcription (102pp) of a diary, September 1915 - December 1918, covering his service as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 76th Field Company RE (Guards Division) on the Somme and in the Ypres Salient including descriptions of installing gas cylinders, trench drainage and construction, a truce on Christmas Day 1915, a cessation of firing caused by a one-on-one fight in No Mans Land, the retrieval of deserters and the condition of evacuated German trenches, with photocopied ts transcription of 11 letters, May 1915 - November 1918, written mainly to his brother describing Christmas celebrations in the trenches and his move in March 1918 to No 3 (later No 1) RE Workshops Company, together with photocopies of a ts history of the 76th Field Company RE based heavily upon extracts from the Company War Diary, a movement order (2 October 1915), letter of appreciation from his unit (January 1916), certificate for temporary appointment to RE Workshop (nd, AF W3723), discharge certificate (6 January 1919, AF Z3), ts intelligence report concerning Les Boeufs (September 1916), and 10 maps.
