Ms diary of his service as an American doctor with the Harvard Medical Unit, June - October 1915, covering his journeys to and from France via London; and his experiences at 22nd General Hospital BEF at Camiers with descriptions of some of his cases, the active social life of the medical staff and meetings with the famous physician, Dr William Osler; a transcription of the diary (49pp ts); the verses of a song praising Dr Osler (1p ts); and 2 pocket notebooks (29pp ms in all) containing a description of the organisation of 22nd General Hospital, as well as 'Medical and Surgical Observations' with notes on shrapnel wounds, amputations and gas bacillus cases. Also six ms accounts written by some of his patients of their experiences in France up to their arrival at the hospital in August 1915, including a Leinster Regiment Sergeant who served in France from September 1914 until wounded at Hooge in July 1915, a rifleman in the 7th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps who saw action in the Ypres Sector in July 1915 (with references to the coolness and bravery of his Battalion's officers), a rifleman in the 8th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps who took part in the fighting at Hooge at the end of July 1915, a Royal Scots Fusiliers private who was wounded at night in No Man's Land at Ypres in August 1915 (with many interesting details particularly on the problems caused by lack of sleep amongst the men); and a poem, 'Hill 60' describing the action there in April 1915, by a private in the 1st Royal West Kent Regiment.
