Photocopy of a privately published account (71pp) written in 1919, of her service as a nurse's aide with the American Red Cross in France, describing her experiences at American Red Cross Hospital 107, Jouy-sur-Marin (June - August 1918); at American Red Cross Hospital 111, Chateau-Thierry (August - September 1918); and with United States Evacuation Hospital No 114 briefly at Toul, and then nearer the front at Fleury-sur-Aire, receiving casualties from the St Mihiel offensive. The account ends with her return to Paris in November after the Armistice and journey home to the United States in January 1919.
Military conflict took place during every year of the 20th Century. There were only short periods of time that the world was free of war. The total number of deaths caused by war during the 20th Century has been estimated at 187 million and is probably higher.
