Ts transcript (67pp) of diary kept as a staff officer and Brigade Major of the 2nd Divisional RA, 15 August 1914 to 1 January 1915. This contains descriptions of the retreat from Mons, where demoralisation and alleged enemy ruses are described, also the battle of the Aisne in September. The general lack of news and failure to follow up the retiring enemy is criticised. The first Battle of Ypres (October - November) is also detailed, especially noting the shortage of shells, as are poor conditions in the trenches at the end of the year. Also a ms note of condolence (1p) on his death in action in 1916, and ts transcripts (2pp) of letters of condolence on the death of his brother Lieutenant M C Mowbray, 89th Field Company RE (14th Division) in 1917. Also with the collection is a Scroll of Honour and Note to accompany a Memorial Plaque relating to Major Mowbray, 1914 - 1918.
