Ts account (82pp photocopies; written in 1983) of his service as a Clerk with the RAMC, covering his call up and posting to 198 Field Ambulance in January 1940, training in the United Kingdom with this unit (January 1940 - September 1941) and with 159 Field Ambulance (September 1941 - October 1942), his service with 159 FA in North Africa (November 1942 - July 1943, pp 41-45), Italy (November 1943 - June 1944, pp 46-56) - where the unit became attached to the 4th Division - and Greece (December 1944 - January 1946, pp 58-75). In January 1946 he was transferred to 12 Field Ambulance and demobilised some months later. As a Clerk he was responsible for keeping records of casualties and their movements and he gives useful details of this aspect of the war as well as the more general difficulty of providing medical aid in the field, particularly when under shell fire.
