Photocopy of a very detailed ts memoir (573pp) covering his return passage from the United Kingdom to Australia in the liner RANGITATA (October - November 1939), his receipt of a commission in the Royal Australian Naval Reserve, his service as a Sub Lieutenant in the minesweeping sloop HMAS DOOMBA employed on patrol duties off SE Australia and sweeping mines laid by German surface raiders (March 1940 - March 1941), as a Lieutenant in the cruiser HMAS ADELAIDE engaged on convoy escort duty in Australasian waters (April 1941 - September 1942), as second-in-command of DOOMBA, now an anti-submarine sloop, employed on coastal convoy escort in Australasian waters (October - December 1942) and as Landing Control Officer and sometime Executive Officer of the landing ship infantry HMAS WESTRALIA, February 1943 - August 1945, which disembarked American or Australian troops at opposed landings on Japanese occupied islands in the Western Pacific including the Arawe peninsula, New Britain (15 December 1943), Hollandia in New Guinea (22 April 1944), the southern Leyte Gulf in the Philippines (20 October 1944), Lingayen Gulf in the Philippines (9 January 1945), Tarakan off NE Borneo (1 May 1945), Brunei Bay in British North Borneo (10 June 1945) and Balikpapan in SE Borneo (1 July 1945); and his service as a regular Royal Australian Navy officer from August 1946 - December 1961, entirely in shore appointments after November 1950 because of his defective eyesight.
