Ms memoir (110pp) written in 1974 of his service as a batman, runner and guide in the 1/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment TF (145th Brigade, 48th Division) 1914 - 1918, describing its mobilisation in August 1914, its home defence duties, August 1914 - March 1915, and its overseas service in France and Belgium, March 1915 - November 1917, during which the battalion had front line duty at Ploegsteert Wood, April 1915, opposite Messines, June 1915, at Hebuterne July 1915 - July 1916, in the Battle of the Somme, July - November 1916, in the Somme Sector again February - March 1917, at Epelny, near the Hindenburg Line April 1917, and then in Belgium during the 3rd Battle of Ypres, August - November 1917, and in Italy, November 1917 - September 1918, where the battalion served on the Piave near Nervesa in January 1918, and on the Asiago Plateau, April - August 1918, then back in France, September - November 1918 (75th Brigade, 25th Division) taking part in the Allied advance and the capture of Maretz, Bazuk and Landrecies; together with a collection of First World War postcards, his service papers, Re-Union Dinner menus, and ms extracts from books he consulted in the preparation of his memoir including an anonymous history of the 240th (1st South Midland, Gloucestershire Brigade) RFA, 1914 - 1918.
