A series of 9 pocket diaries covering his service as a 17 year old Boy 1st Class at the RN Barracks Shotley (January - December 1924); as an Ordinary Telegraphist/Telegraphist in the battleship HMS REVENGE, the Atlantic Fleet flagship (January 1925 - December 1926); as a Telegraphist in the cruiser HMS CHAMPION based on Portsmouth (January - August 1927), in HMS WIVERN, 3rd Destroyer Flotilla China Station (September 1927 - September 1928), at Horsea Island W/T Station Portsmouth (October 1928 - August 1929) at Flowerdown W/T Station Hampshire (August - October 1929), at the RN Barracks Portsmouth (October - December 1929), in the battleship HMS NELSON, the Atlantic Fleet flagship (January - April 1930) and at the RN Air Station Eastchurch (May - June 1930); and then as a Telegraphist Air Gunner at the RAF Station Gosport (June - December 1930), the School of Naval Co-operation Lee-on-Solent (January - September 1931), in HMS YORK, 2nd Cruiser Squadron Atlantic Fleet (September 1931 - February 1932) and again at the School of Naval Co-operation until his discharge in May 1932. Most of the entries are brief notes on his daily service and social activities, but a few reflect his general restlessness with naval life and the entries covering HMS YORK's part in the Invergordon Mutiny in September 1931 are also of interest.
