Ts account (331pp) describing his service as a Subaltern attached to the 5th Battalion, East Kent Regiment (36th Infantry Brigade) covering his voyage to France (19 April 1940), fighting in France, his capture in late May 1940, his imprisonment in the following camps: (in France) Frevent, St Vith; (Germany/Poland) Mainz, Laufen (Oflag VII C/H), Posen (Stalag XXID, February - June 1941), Biberach (Oflag VB June - August 1941), Warburg (Oflag VIB, September 1941 - October 1942), Eichstatt (Oflag VIIB October 1942 - January 1945); his repatriation via Switzerland in January 1945 as an invalid, and the problems of readjustment. Excellently written and full of humour and reflection, the account also gives useful details of the following: disciplinary measures taken as POWs by a Senior British Officer (see Laufen episode), prisoners' morale, outlook on the war and conflicts over possessions and the manacling incident at Eichstatt.
