Diary (12pp ms) of her passage, as a British Red Cross Society worker, from Cairo to Tripoli in the hospital ship LLANDOVERY CASTLE and work in setting up a convalescent home in Tripoli (May - June 1943); 8 ms letters written to her parents while serving as a welfare officer at BRCS HQ Southern Europe Commission, CMF in Naples throughout 1944, giving a good picture of the work of the BRCS in Italy; notebooks kept during her service and notes for lectures; reports on the repatriation of British prisoners of war from Italy to Egypt in 1943; BRCS, Southern Europe Commission reports for 1944, and details of locations of BRCS personnel in Italy; documents relating to the Willys Jeep which she presented to the IWM in 1978; service papers, miscellaneous documents and photographs. Also, 188 ms letters from her mother, Commandant of Flint House Auxiliary Hospital near Reading, Berkshire, 1943 - 1945, describing the problems of running a Red Cross convalescent home in wartime; 18 ms letters from her father, a stockbrocker and landowner, commenting on the British economy, the City's attitude to the War and problems with the Land Army over his farm; 9 ms letters from her brother, Major C R Whittington MC, 1st Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment, one of which contains an excellent account of his experiences during the Normandy landings; and approximately 50 ms letters from Red Cross colleagues, including good descriptions of BRCS work in Austria (September 1945), Greece (October 1945) and Italy (February 1946), and including 3 from Lady Limerick, Deputy Chairman of the War Organisation of the Red Cross and St John.
