Photocopied ts transcript (54pp) of a diary kept while attached to a multi-national War Graves Registration unit (22 September - 10 October 1945) carrying out the initial reconnaissance of the route of the Burma-Siam railway to identify the 10,500 burial places of Allied military personnel who died and were buried there. The diary describes the route taken by Babb and his colleagues, the methods used to find graves, the locations of the graves and events en route, including attacks by marauding Thais and the participation of Japanese personnel in the search. (Babb was himself captured at the fall of Singapore while serving as Chaplain in the East Surrey Regiment and was imprisoned there and in various camps in Thailand).
