Object description

Ms diary (53pp) and ms flying log book (24pp) recording his career as a Flight Engineer with the RAF, November 1943 - August 1944, including: his service with No 1652 CU, November - December 1943; flying the Halifax (40 Operations) with No 466 Squadron RAAF, Bomber Command, from RAF Leconfield and RAF Driffield in Yorkshire against targets (notably Augsberg, Berlin, Essen, Frankfurt, Kiel, Leipzig, Nuremberg, Schweinfurt and Stuttgart) in Belgium, France, and Germany, January - August 1944; and giving a brief description of each operation including the distance, target, bomb load, length of flight, any opposition which was encountered, and his own reactions. Also included are ms notes and sketches (118pp) made during his training as a Flight Engineer; German ration coupons, February 1944; an aerial photograph of Caen, July 1944; a Captains of Aircraft Map (1p, undated) showing the different targets which he had operated against; seven aerial leaflets in French, Flemish and German, November 1942 - February 1944; a leaflet (4pp) relating to 466 - 462 Squadrons Annual Reunion, March 1978; a 1944 song and his reflections on the Fiftieth Anniversary of VE Day (2pp), May 1995; and a ts newspaper cutting from the Petersfield Post, May 1995, quoting extracts from his diary, February - March 1945.
