Description
Object description
Photocopy of ts extracts (11pp) from letters written by him to his daughter in Glasgow while living in Balham, South West London (May - September 1940) containing excellent comments on the air raids in the Balham area during this period, including a good description of the illuminations caused by a fire in the East India Docks (September 1940) and of an incendiary raid on Balham, and also details of the effect of the war upon the City of London (June - September 1940). Dr Maclean wrote in a nonchalant and lucid manner, although excited by political issues and bewildered by the German tenacity in attacking such a small town as Balham; together with a privately printed booklet produced by his daughter in 2000 containing further extracts from his letters to her during 1940 and a photograph of Dr Maclean and other medical students at Glasgow University in 1897.
