Letters written to her from four friends serving overseas during the First and Second World Wars: 24 ms letters (106pp) from a sergeant (June 1916 - May 1922) while serving with 71st Siege Battery, South African Heavy Artillery (affiliated to the Royal Garrison Artillery) on the Western Front, including very good descriptions of conditions for artillerymen and the action at Mametz Wood (July 1916), Bullecourt (April 1917), for which he was awarded the Military Medal, and the Third Battle of Ypres (September 1917), as well as his romantic feelings for her and his discontent with the war; 5 ms letters (19pp) from a trooper serving with the Cheshire Yeomanry in Palestine (February 1940 - February 1941) where he was killed in action later in 1941, detailing his journey from Southampton to Haifa (December 1939 - January 1940) and the trips he took to places of religious significance while on leave; 1 ms letter (3pp) from a lieutenant serving in the aircraft carrier HMS TRUMPETER (September 1944); and a postcard showing the ranks of the Inns of Court OTC, Berkhamsted (September 1915).
