Ts memoir of his service as a navigator with the RAF (1941 - 1946) covering his training in Torquay (March 1942), Eastbourne (May 1942), Harrogate (September 1942), RAF Usworth (March 1943), RAF Fairwood Common, Swansea (April 1943), No 51 OTU, Cranfield, Bedfordshire (May 1943), and Hunsdon, Hertfordshire (August 1943) and his duties with 157 Squadron at Predannack, near Lizard (November 1943), Anglesey (March 1944), Swannington, Norfolk (May 1944) where he received his commission as a pilot officer and Padgate (July 1945), including good comments on his mixed feelings about the ethics of war (June 1941), references to letters between himself and his wife highlighting financial difficulties and the concern of bringing up a disabled child, a description of the destruction of a JU88 in the Bay of Biscay and of his first operational flight (against V flying bombs) and following flights over Germany (1944 - 1946), and of the measures taken by RAF officials to ensure that aircraft and equipment would not be put to unauthorised ceremonial use during the VE Day celebrations.
