Ts official narrative of events and supporting documents including recommendations for awards and a chart (8pp) compiled by the Commanding Officer of HMS SUTTON (4th Minesweeping Flotilla) describing his ship's part in the evacuation of units of the BEF and the French Army from Dunkirk and neighbouring beaches, 26 May - 5 June 1940, with interesting comments on the morale of the troops and the factors affecting the progress of the evacuation; together with a ts copy (4pp) of a letter written in June 1940 by Hewett, a Sub Lieutenant RNVR in HMS SUTTON, giving his personal impressions of the evacuation and four other documents relating to SUTTON's minesweeping duties in the North Sea, 1939 - 1942; also a cyclostyled ts history (18pp) of the operations of the aircraft carrier HMS IMPLACABLE in Norwegian waters (October - December 1944) and then against Japan and on repatriation duties with the British Pacific Fleet (June - November 1945), a separate cyclostyled ts report of proceedings (18pp) on the passage in IMPLACABLE of over 2000 repatriated British prisoners of war from the Philippines to Canada (September - October 1945), a naval signal concerning the end of the war against Japan, two flimsies covering Hewett's service in IMPLACABLE (1943 - 1945), his mention in despatches and a letter of appreciation from the Admiralty (1946), together with a profile plan of HMS IMPLACABLE, two newspaper cuttings from the 'Vancouver Sun' covering her arrival there with repatriated prisoners of war (October 1945), and summaries of service and technical drawings of British minesweepers.
