Ts memoir (112pp), written in 1992 and extensively illustrated with copies of photographs and documents, covering his childhood in Chester (1926 - 1944), including service in the Air Training Corps from 1941, his conscription and basic naval training in the shore establishments HMS ROYAL ARTHUR at Skegness and HMS GLENDOWER in North Wales (September 1944 - February 1945), his radar training ashore in HMS VALKYRIE on the Isle of Man and HMS COLLINGWOOD in Hampshire and afloat in HMS ISLE OF SARK based on Rosyth (March - May 1945), his service as an able seaman radar plotter in HMS F(ighter) D(irection) T(ender) 13 for passage to Malta and back (July - September 1945), at Vicarage Road camp, Plymouth (October - December 1945), his passage out to Ceylon and service there in the shore establishment HMS MAYINA (January - March 1946) and then, in various capacities, in HMS BAMBARA, the RN Air Station at Trincomalee (March 1946 - November 1947), his passage home (November - December 1947) and demobilisation and readjustment to civilian life (1948). The memoir, which is essentially written from source material accumulated long after the war, but includes useful details about his training and living conditions in Ceylon, is accompanied by an illustrated ts account (35pp), written in 1997, of his recent return visits to HMS GLENDOWER, now a holiday camp though with many of its original wartime buildings still in use, and also including other information about its time as a naval training establishment.
