Collection of 91 manuscript letters to his wife, August 1919 - June 1920, which are essentially personal in nature, but contain a significant volume of professional comment concerning his command of the Mediterranean Fleet light cruiser HMS CARADOC during her deployment in the Black Sea in support of the Volunteer Army opposing the Bolsheviks including references to the capture of Odessa by the White Russians (August), operations in the Sea of Azov (October), the fall of Novorossisk to the Bolsheviks and resistance to their subsequent advance on Batoum (March - April) and the organisation of the evacuation of White Russians as their military situation deteriorated, as well as descriptions of conditions in the principal Black Sea ports, his contacts with and opinions of General Denikin (4 October) and other commanders of the Volunteer Army and its fighting efficiency and occasional observations on fellow RN officers, among them Admiral O Backhouse (18 May), Admiral Sir Sydney Fremantle (21 February), Admiral Sir Vernon Haggard (14 February) and Vice Admiral Sir Carlisle Swabey (12 April and 4 June). Together with a privately published book 'The Memoirs of Admiral Sir Ragnar Colvin KBE CB, 1882 - 1954' (135pp), originally written by him in 1947 and published and edited by his son and daughter in 1992.
