Description
Object description
Ts draft (13pp) of an article by the author Patrick Beesly, written in 1982, discussing the circumstances of the sinking of the liner LUSITANIA by U 20 in May 1915 and concluding that, on the basis of all available written and other evidence, while the captain of the German submarine had identified LUSITANIA as a passenger steamer but persisted with his attack, the Admiralty were well aware that she was carrying munitions, yet, probably as part of a plot to hasten American entry into the war, had neglected, possibly deliberately, to take any precautions to protect her although they knew from signal decrypts that a U-boat was in her vicinity; together with a cyclostyled ts transcript (21pp) of interviews in 1982 between Ludovic Kennedy, Captain S W Roskill RN and Patrick Beesly concerning the interpretation of the available evidence on the loss of the LUSITANIA, with extensive additional comments by J F Light, an American researcher who had also dived on the wreck of the LUSITANIA
