Ms Midshipman's Journal (ca 300pp) covering his service in the battleship HMS BRITANNIA (May 1908 - November 1909), the destroyer HMS AFRIDI (January - April 1910) and the battleship HMS ST VINCENT (May 1910 - May 1911), all in the Home Fleet, with useful references to the annual manoeuvres each July and to gunnery practices; an ms diary (60pp), with partial ts transcript (10pp), kept as a watch-keeping lieutenant in the cruiser HMS CORNWALL (August 1914 - February 1915) during her employment on patrol and shipping examination duties in the eastern Atlantic (including his command of a prize crew in a ship carrying German reservists) and then in South American waters, with comments on the Battle of Coronel and an excellent description of CORNWALL's sinking of the German cruiser LEIPZIG at the Battle of the Falkland Islands; an ms diary (30pp), though with social rather than professional entries, written as the gunnery officer in the battle cruiser HMS NEW ZEALAND during Admiral of the Fleet Lord Jellicoe's Empire Mission, notably to Australia and New Zealand (May 1919 - February 1920); an ms diary (16pp) kept as a gunnery instructor in HMS EXCELLENT at Portsmouth (March 1920 - February 1921); ts precis (9pp) for a lecture given by him at the RN Staff College in 1926 - 1927 on the disastrous combined operations against Tanga in German East Africa from 2 - 4 November 1914; together with his commission, official letters of appointment and certificates (August 1903 - April 1936), two documents concerning his appointment as provost marshal at a naval court martial (November 1913) and a photograph of him in uniform.
