Illustrated ts memoir (118pp), written circa 1990, describing his service as a company officer, and later commander, in the 7th Battalion The Gold Coast Regiment (5th Gold Coast Brigade, 81st West African Division) during the Arakan campaign in Burma, December 1943 - December 1944, and giving extensive details of his Battalion's two periods of operations, principally in the Kaladan valley, with useful accounts of the logistical problems and tactics of jungle warfare, the fluctuations in the morale of both officers and men occasioned largely by the extremely demanding physical conditions in the Arakan, as well as interesting references to the qualities of the West African and Japanese soldiers and to the philosophy which sustained him during the campaign; together with two related ts memoirs (27 and 21pp), written in 1996, the first describing his passage in the TAMAROA from the United Kingdom to West Africa (October - November 1942), his service and training in the Gold Coast and Nigeria with various battalions of The Gold Coast Regiment until his embarkation for India with the 7th Battalion (July 1943) and their subsequent progress to the Arakan front, with some useful impressions of West Africa; and the second recording the Battalion's return from Burma to India in January 1945, their training for combined operations in the Madras area and their activities during their lengthy wait for repatriation after Japan's defeat, with interesting comments on relations between the African soldiers and the Indians.
