Correspondence, mainly addressed to Lieutenant Colonel G A Malcolm, the Commanding Officer of the 1/14th Battalion London Regiment (`the London Scottish'), congratulating him on his Battalion's gallantry during the fighting at Messines on 31 October 1914 in the First Battle of Ypres and offering sympathy on their heavy losses, comprising ms letters dated November 1914 from General Sir Douglas Haig (commanding I Corps), Major General E H H Allenby (commanding 1st Cavalry Corps), Brigadier General The Earl of Cavan (commanding 4th Guards Brigade), Brigadier General The Hon C E Bingham (commanding 4th Cavalry Brigade) and Colonel F W Romilly (AQMG, Second Army), together with an ms letter from Allenby to Haig praising the London Scottish, the first Territorial Force battalion to see active service, a field message from Field Marshal Sir John French congratulating Malcolm, and a later letter to Malcolm from a friend
