Photostat copies of records kept by an RAFVR medical officer who was a prisoner of war in Java from March 1942 - August 1945, including: an ms diary (65pp) and two ms journals (29 and 45pp) covering his time on the staff in No 1 Allied General Hospital in Bandoeng (March - April 1942), in various camps in Bandoeng (April - May 1942, June - October 1942 and February - August 1945), in Tjimahi (May - June 1942) and Tandjong Priok (October 1942 - April 1943) and in Mater Dolorosa and St Vincentius prisoner of war hospitals in Batavia (April 1943 - January 1945); postcards (16pp) received from his family during his captivity; lists of RAF medical personnel who were fellow prisoners of war; ts notes (7pp) about the compulsory signature of a non-escape declaration by the Allied prisoners of war at Tandjong Priok in November 1942 and a ts official report (8pp) written following his liberation on the medical arrangements in his camps up to May 1944. The collection includes useful details about their treatment by the Japanese, especially food shortages and their effects, their relations with Dutch medical officers also in captivity and the condition of sick Allied prisoners of war arriving from Ambon and Haroekoe.
