Description
Object description
Ts memoir (144pp) of a regular officer in the Gloucestershire Regiment compiled by his widow in the 1950s, describing his Army career and their life together from their first meeting in 1941 until his death in action in Korea in April 1951, and including very substantial extracts from his letters to her covering his service as a subaltern in the 4th Battalion Parachute Regiment in North Africa (May - August 1943) and Italy (September - December 1943) where he was severely wounded and evacuated to the United Kingdom in February 1944, and as a company officer with the 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment during their passage out to the Far East in the troopship EMPIRE WINDRUSH (October - November 1950) and service in Korea (November 1950 - April 1951). His correspondence contains many interesting comments about his reactions to active service, the anxieties of separation and contacts with civilians, and the letters from Korea include fine descriptions of the fighting and conditions in the front line.
