Ts transcript (23pp) of an incomplete memoir, written in the late 1980s, describing his decision to volunteer for service and training as an Army padre in 1941, his service as a chaplain at the Middlesex Regiment depot in North London (March-autumn 1941), his passage via South Africa to Egypt in the troopships ORONSAY and MAURETANIA (winter 1941) and his service with the 2nd Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment (9th Indian Infantry Brigade, 5th Indian Division) in Cyprus (January-April 1942) and during the fighting, including the Battle of the Cauldron, in the Western Desert (May-June 1942); together with a ts report with ms additions (13pp), written as acting SCF of the 5th Indian Division in Burma in December 1944, outlining the duties of padres in the Burma campaign and the key factors affecting the morale of the officers and men of the Division.
