Microfilm of his contemporary ts account (15pp) of his brief appointment, as a cadet at the Royal Naval College Dartmouth, to the battleship HMS IRON DUKE in order to be present at the Review of the Fleet at Spithead by King George VI in May 1937; and of his ms Midshipman's Journal (125pp) covering his service in the battleship HMS REVENGE, May 1940 - October 1941, and describing her employment, based on Greenock and Halifax, Nova Scotia, as an escort, particularly to fast troopships, on North Atlantic convoys, her part in the bombardment of Cherbourg (10 October 1940), her provision of boarding parties to take over the French battleship PARIS at Devonport following the fall of France (3 July 1940) and of fire-fighting parties during the major German air raid on Portsmouth (11 - 12 March 1941) as well as recording his destroyer time in HMS BUXTON based on Halifax, Nova Scotia (May 1941) and occasionally giving his opinions on HMS REVENGE's fighting efficiency and major events in the war
