37 ms letters and 1 ms postcard with ms transcription (11pp, including one additional letter) written while serving with the 1/14th Battalion London Regiment (London Scottish) (168th Brigade, 56th Division) in France, July 1917 - June 1918, until sent sick to the 42nd Casualty Clearing Station, describing his journey to France, conditions in camp and the trenches, rations, his ill health, the postal service and relations with local civilians, together with his Certificate of Discharge from a Cadet Unit in November 1916 (Army Form E512), postcards of the London Scottish Camp, his demobilisation papers, certificate from the County of London Territorial Forces Association for services rendered during the war, his Second World War National Identity Card (1943) and documents relating to his time as an ARP and Post Invasion Defence Warden in Wandsworth (1938 - 1945) including details of his warden's post (K.93), the residents who lived in his area, a Red Cross Instruction Certificate, a certificate from the Borough of Wandsworth recognising his services, a photocopy of a newspaper cutting describing a presentation from his neighbours and a hand drawn certificate of thanks that he received from them.
