Ms diary in three small notebooks and loose pages, together with photocopy of ts transcription (110pp) covering the period September 1942 - October 1945, beginning with brief details of his work with British American Tobacco Limited and service with the Semarangsche Stadswacht (local volunteer defence force in Semarang, Java), but largely describing his life in civilian internment camps on Java at Soerakarta ('Solo' camp, September 1942 - September 1943), Bandoeng (September 1943 - February 1944) and in two camps at Tjimahi (February 1944 - September 1945), giving fairly brief details of conditions, particularly of medical conditions and the operations carried out in the camps (and of his work there as a medical orderly and nurse), food (including improvisations), social problems (including thefts and personality clashes), the arrival of the surrender, liberation and (briefly) repatriation; also miscellaneous items including a small notebook and loose pages containing ms notes on food and pastimes as an internee, his 1942 identity card, his internee number on linen, a Semarang railway ticket, a hand-drawn 1943 Christmas card and two printed brochures issued during his voyage home in 1945.
