Ts memoir (323pp), written in 1991, of his service as CO 801 Naval Air Squadron during the Falklands conflict in 1982, providing a detailed narrative of his experiences flying Sea Harriers from HMS INVINCIBLE as part of the Falklands Task Force air defences, and also expressing very forthright views on many aspects of the conduct of naval/air operations, especially the rivalry he experienced between the RAF and the FAA, and his efforts to overcome the perceived obstructionism and lack of competence in the Flag Ship HMS HERMES with regard to air defence tactics; the memoir also describes Ward's trials and tribulations as Sea Harrier desk officer at the Ministry of Defence before the Falklands conflict, when he played an important part in promoting the aircraft as a viable night fighter in defiance of its critics.
