Photocopies of an anecdotal ts memoir (33pp), undated with ms amendments, of his service, May 1926 - 1940, as an pilot with the RAF on a Short-Service Commission, including: No 1 Flying Training School, RAF Netheravon, May 1926 - May 1927; No 43 (Fighter) Squadron RAF, RAF Tangmere, May 1927 - April 1928; a short Instructor's Course at the Central Flying School (CFS), RAF Wittering, April 1928; as an Instructor at No 3 Flying Training School, RAF Grantham, April 1928 - February 1929; at the CFS, RAF Wittering, February 1929 - May 1932, instructing and developing blind-flying techniques (forming and commanding the first Instrument Flight, CFS, he was awarded the AFC for making the first solo blind-flight in the world in 1931); leaving the RAF for the City (as a Chartered Patent Adviser), May 1932, while remaining in the Reserve; delivering aircraft to Spain and Portugal during the inter-war years as a free-lance pilot; becoming a part-time Instructor in a Reserve School, 1938 - February 1940, returning to full-time flying duties in 1939; and being seconded in February 1940 to Power Jets Ltd to take part in the development of the jet engine by his friend, Sir Frank Whittle (he had been Patent Advisor to Power Jets Ltd since 1936). Also included are a photograph of the first instrument-only flight at RAF Wittering, 1931, and one of him with Sir Frank Whittle, no date.
