Ts memoir (12pp), written in March 1991, recording his wartime service in the RE, October 1939 - ?August 1946, including: volunteering as a qualified Civil Engineer, October 1939; training with No 13 War Party, Napier Barracks, Shorncliffe, Kent, and serving in the ranks at Folkestone and Hawkinge Airfield, January - June 1940; training at 142nd OCTU, Aldershot, June 1940 - January 1941; his service as an Officer with No 2 Railway Training Establishment, Kings Newton, near Derby, January 1941 - June 1943; as Deputy Assistant Director of Transportation, Tn 5d, Department of Docks and Inland Water Transportation, War Office, June 1943 - ? August 1946, mainly developing Floating Roadways (WHALE) but also reopening Antwerp, converting cross channel ferries to land rolling stock, designing emergency lock gates (SHARK), and repairing the Dutch dykes, September 1945. Also included are his ts Notes on Floating Bridge Equipment with sketches and tables (230pp), written in January 1944, outlining the design of Floating Roadways (WHALE) to move supplies ashore from Mulberry B Harbour, Arromanches, Normandy, May 1942 - July 1944; a ts article with illustrations (24pp), given to the Institute of Civil Engineers in June 1947, on Flexible Bridging, including WHALE; and an aerial photograph, August 1944, of the Mulberry Harbour B at Arromanches.
