Fragments of original ms diary (233pp, May 1945 - February 1946) and photocopy of an edited ts transcript (203pp) of the complete diary, describing his service as an interpreter with 1749 Naval Party attached to Naval Headquarters based in Minden, Western Germany, involved in the investigation of local and other industries but giving excellent descriptions of his conversations with Germans during his travels throughout Germany (east and west) giving very useful details about the attitudes between Germans and the Allies, particularly the Russians, the effect of the policies of non-fraternisation, de-nazification and property requisitioning, Germans' opinions on the war/Hitler, meetings with the first hand opinion of Admiral Heye and Rear Admiral Otto Schulz, a visit to the Nuremberg trials, the situation in Germany with regard to food, education, politics, morale, violence by Allied occupying troops and transport, and giving his own critical views of the 'blanket' and 'harmful' policies operated by the Allies in Germany.
