Ms account (9pp) written in February 1919 giving details of his war service from the date of his entry into the army, on 14 March 1916 to the Armistice in November 1918 including details of his movements and the actions in which he was involved beginning with his training in England with the 3/1st West Kent Yeomanry before being sent to France in August 1916 to join the 13th Battalion Middlesex Regiment (73rd Brigade, 24th Division) in Happy Valley on the Somme with whom he subsequently saw service at Vimy Ridge (including the attack in April 1917), Loos, Souchez, Hill 60 (as part of the attack on Messines Ridge in June 1917), the Third Battle of Ypres, Hargicourt on the Somme for the opening of the German Spring Offensive on 21 March 1918, Cambrai for the start of the Allied attack on 8 August and Mons where he was wounded on 4 November, learning of the Armistice whilst in hospital.
