Ts memoir (280 pp) of his childhood as the son of a Wesleyan Minister in Wales and London, 1919 - 1939, his work in the Air Ministry, 1939 - 1940, then call up by the RAF, basic training at RAF Padgate and Doncaster, followed by navigator's training at No 2 Initial Training Wing, Pembroke College, Cambridge, July - August 1940, No 1 Air Observer Navigation School, Prestwick, August - November 1940, at Bombing and Gunnery School Penrhos, November 1940 - February 1941, and Blenheim OTU at Bicester, March - May 1941, then active service with No 107 Squadron, RAF Bomber Command, on anti-shipping and bombing operations, May - July 1941, with No 45 Squadron in Syria, Iraq, and Egypt, July - December 1941, and with No 216 (bomber/transport) Squadron RAF in Egypt, Sudan and Nigeria, and flying supplies for SAS and LRDG, before being chosen as navigator for Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Tedder, in Britain and France, January - December 1944, followed by a posting to 246 Squadron RAF, December 1944 - August 1945, and finally as navigator with the Prime Minister's flight, (1359 Flight), August 1945 - July 1946 flying to USA, Russia and New Zealand.
