Bound ts account (81pp written ca 1986) and revised ts (96pp, 1991 - 1995) describing in brief his service in Great Britain with the Royal Army Service Corps (RASC), 1940 -1941, his voyage to Singapore on the troopships DUCHESS OF ATHOLL and MOUNT VERNON and covering in more detail his experiences as a prisoner of war in Changi camp, Singapore (February 1942 - April 1943; April 1944 - September 1945 including the 'Selarang Incident') and at Sonkurai (Thailand) and Tambaya (Burma) camps, giving ample descriptions of Japanese brutality and interrogation methods (of which he was a victim), the Nicholson escape party, health, medical and general conditions, his constant work overseeing and organising cooking and feeding in each camp, including the problems of equitable distribution, the sterling work of Padre Duckworth, meeting Lord Mountbatten and being repatriated on the HMT SOBIESKI; 2 original pencil drawings by Leo Rawlings of scenes from the camps, ts lists of deaths among RASC POWs in 1943; photocopies of ts report (7pp, written ca 1944) compiled by POWs for the Japanese on conditions experienced in Thailand, May - December 1943, and of Padre Duckworth's September 1945 radio broadcast (2pp); and a souvenir copy of a series of articles based on Franks's account published in the 'Daily Mail' in June 1995.
