Photocopy of ts memoir (64pp) of her service as a Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS) despatch rider stationed at Portsmouth and Fort Southwick, 1942 - 1946, anecdotal and somewhat disjointed in style but with useful observations on her training and experiences, conveying some idea of the difficulties and hazards of the job, with descriptions of military activities she witnessed at Portsmouth at the time of the Dieppe raid, August 1942, and being presented to King George VI and escorting him and other dignitaries on official duties.

Who Was Violette Szabo?

Violette Szabo (1921-1945) worked for 'F' Section in Special Operations Executive (SOE) during the Second World War. During a mission in France she was captured and imprisoned by the Nazi's. She was executed in Ravensbrück concentration camp and posthumously awarded the George Cross, the highest honour given to civilians.
