Ts transcript, with some photographs, of a diary (9pp), February - June 1915, describing his service as a subaltern in the 2nd Battalion Hampshire Regiment (88th Brigade, 29th Division) from the formation of the Division in the West Midlands to his return to England from Egypt having been wounded in the landing at Helles and including details of the journey out through the Mediterranean via Malta, Egypt and Lemnos, his landing on 25 April 1915 at V Beach from the RIVER CLYDE, his wounding the next day during the attack on Sedd el Bahr, his evacuation back to Egypt and finally his return as the first casualty from Gallipoli on 31 May; two ts transcriptions of talks given in 1965 describing his experiences in more detail, the first (7pp), to the BBC, about the landing and the fighting on 26 April when he was wounded and the second (7pp) describing his time in the Anglo-American hospital in Cairo after his evacuation from Helles and his return to England where, as the first casualty, he had to answer a number of questions from anxious relatives; a notebook containing the original ms draft (33pp) of the two talks; his commission into the Hampshire Regiment as a Special Reserve officer (September 1914), his commission as a Territorial Force Captain in the Hampshire Regiment (August 1920); his elder brother's temporary commission into the Royal Field Artillery (February 1915) and an ms letter from his father, dated October 1915, enclosing a fair copy of a letter concerning the elder brother's death on 28 September 1915 while serving with the 53rd Brigade RFA on the Western Front.
