Extracts from the ts memoirs (275pp) of Mrs Penny, giving an account of her service as a Coder in the WRNS during the Second World War, containing only scattered references to her official duties but providing some interesting detail on social activities and life in the WRNS in Egypt, at the HQ C-in-C Mediterranean at Alexandria and at Ismailia, her experiences of the naval war in the Eastern Mediterranean during 1942 - 1943, off-duty visits to Cairo and Giza, Lebanon and Palestine, where she experienced the political tensions pervading those countries, her posting to the HQ C-in-C Nore at Chatham in the summer of 1944, her experiences of V1 flying bomb attacks there and at Rochester, her journey to Halifax and New York as a rating aboard RMS MAURETANIA, concluding with her posting to the HQ C-in-C Western Approaches at Liverpool to work on convoy routing signals; also a booklet containing copies of photographs and ephemera relating to the memoirs.
