Ts account (76pp), written in 1989, recording her work as a shorthand typist in the Civil Defence (Medical) Headquarters, attached to the Bristol Health Department, 1938 - 1943, and her experiences, mainly humorous, including: being bombed out of two homes and her offices, German air raids on Bristol, notably 24 November 1940 and 16 March 1941, the Civil Defence Committee in Bristol, her training and service with the St John's Ambulance Brigade, as hostess at the American Red Cross Club, her relations with American servicemen, and her marriage and move to Scotland, September 1943; describing civilian morale during the war, the BBC's arrival in Bristol, living conditions, the affects of the bombing on civilians, entertainment, shortages and the Black Market, racial tensions within the American Forces, Christmas 1942; and mentioning the broadcasts by William Joyce, 'Lord Haw-Haw'; and Lady Edwina Mountbatten. Also included is her account (4pp), written in 1990, describing the German bombing raid on Bristol, 24 November 1940, and the damage and casualties inflicted, and a brief account (1p), written in 1990, by her husband of his civilian work in the Clydebank shipyards in Glasgow, 1940 - 1944.
