Thoughtful ts account (50pp), written in May 1990, recording his personal experiences as a Navigator with the RAF, May 1941 - January 1946, including: joining up, May 1941; Air Crew Receiving Centre, London, August 1941; Initial Training Wing, Newquay, August - October 1941; No 1 Elementary Air Observers Navigation School, Eastbourne, October 1941 - February 1942; SAAF ITW, Johannesburg, April - May 1942; No 41 Air School, East London, Cape Province, May - September 1942; No 42 OTU, Ashbourne, Derbyshire, November 1942 - April 1943; No 301 Flying Training Unit, May 1943; No 13 Squadron RAF, North Africa, Sicily and Italy, on Coastal Operations and Night Intruder Work, May 1943 - June 1944; Instructor, No 70 OCTU, Shandur, Canal Zone, Egypt, August 1944 - June 1945; commissioned, October 1944; Navigation Briefing Officer, No 20 Staging Post, No 115 Wing, RAF Transport Command, Khartoum, August 1945, and Wadi Halfa, September - December 1945; and describing his journey from Liverpool in HMT ARUNDEL CASTLE to Cape Town, March - April 1942; his reactions to the war; the poor living conditions; entertainment; and the strain of flying.
