Two notebooks kept by J C Hensman while attending a Sound Ranging Course at the Sound Ranging School, GHQ, France in February 1918 giving a detailed account of the principles and procedures of estimating the range of enemy artillery fire by means of the sound of the gun's report, a printed certificate of appreciation and congratulations issued to Sapper J C Hensman by the Royal Borough of Stamford, Lincolnshire, in October 1919 in commemoration of his recent service in the Royal Engineers during the First World War bearing the seal of the borough, a photocopy of his certificate of transfer to the reserve on demobilization (AF Z21) and a letter from the War Office records section (May 1927) confirming that he had served as a sapper in the Royal Engineers, 1917-19, and a collection of picture postcards of various war scenes and figures
