Three ms letters (29pp) to his family, June 1944 - June 1945 recording his service as a Private with 'C' Company, 1st Battalion The Suffolk Regiment (3rd Infantry Division), including: his wounding by mortar shrapnel, life in 4th Canadian General Hospital, England, and expressing his worries at the affects of the V1 on England, 30 June 1944 (2pp); his loss, missing in action, during operations to cross the river Maas, February 1945, and praising his bravery and comradeship, 30 May [1945] (20pp); and in consolation for the loss of two sons, 21 June 1945 (7pp). Also included are newspaper cuttings (3pp), undated, about the Suffolk Regiment, Norfolk men in the Army and a memorial to the dead, including Basil and Wilfred Spendlow, in the Kelling Sanatorium Chapel; and Official Messages of notification (7pp), July 1944 - August 1947, concerning his wounding, death and grave.
