Photocopy of ts account (71pp written in 1985) describing abortive attempts to join the Territorial Army in 1938, service with the Auxiliary Fire Service in Kensington, London (late 1938 - March 1940) and the London Fire Volunteers at the evacuation of Hango and at Helsingfors in Finland (March 1940 - June 1941), his repatriation via Portugal (September 1941 - January 1941), training at OCTU Elgin, Scotland (June-December 1942), posting to 262nd Field Company, Royal Engineers, training at Faversham and Ripon (January-September 1943), and with 2nd Field Company RE, 16th Infantry Brigade in India (November 1943 - February 1944), and with this unit as part of 21 Column during the second Chindit expedition into northern Burma (February-May 1944) this latter part covering: the march from Ledo to Indaw, the physical hardships and toll of this in mountainous jungle conditions, crossing the Uyu river, the operation of air supply drops, a Japanese attack on the column, south of Indaw, the aborting of their planned attack, reactions to the news of Wingate's death and the return to India via 'Aberdeen' and 'Broadway' strongholds, also cyclostyled ts official tables (8pp August 1944) showing the detailed breakdown of a column and (3pp December 1943) of explosives and equipment carried by a commando platoon; cyclostyled ts questionnaire (3pp) for Royal Engineers officers on aspects of a completed military operation (ca. 1944).
