Ms shorthand diary, together with a full ts transcription (71pp), covering his service as a Church of England chaplain with the 1st London Reserve Brigade TF at Deepcut camp, Aldershot (December 1917 - January 1918); his voyage from the United Kingdom to Salonika (February 1918) and his subsequent attachments to the 28th General Hospital in Salonika (February - May 1918), Summerhill Base Depot near Salonika (May - June 1918), the 36th and 37th General Hospitals at Vertecop in Greece (June - October 1918), various Motor Transport Companies ASC stationed in Serbia following the Armistice with Bulgaria (November 1918 - April 1919) and the 43rd General Hospital in Salonika (April - June 1919). The diary includes useful references to the debate about the most effective role for an army padre, disciplinary problems at Deepcut camp and among troops awaiting demobilisation in Salonika in April 1919, conditions in Serbia during the occupation by the Central Powers, and the characteristics and customs of the Greeks and Serbs.
