Ms diary (11pp) and rough notes (38pp) giving brief details of his capture after bailing out of his Hurricane (403 Canadian Squadron, RAF Fighter Command) over the Channel on 27 April 1942 and his experiences as a POW in St Omer Hospital, France (until May 1942), Stalag Luft III (until January 1945) and in Marlag-Milag Nord (until April 1945). The diary mentions Douglas Bader (10 July 1942) and the 'Great Escape'; the notes list letters received, Red Cross parcels and books, as well as giving more details of his crash in 1942 and a list of those killed after the 'Great Escape'; ms postcard from Stalag Luft III; ts account (41pp photocopies, written in 1949) in the form of a diary giving greater detail than the above diary, particularly with reference to: his interrogation at Dulag Luft, Oberursel (May 1942), entertainments in camp, escape attempts (especially the 'Great Escape'), the march to a marine camp near Tarmstedt (February 1945) and thence to Lubeck (April 1945), German civilian reactions to prisoners, their liberation and problems experienced en route back to England.
