Well written ts memoir (112pp) based on letters home, sent while he was serving in India on Garrison duties at Deolali, March - August 1916, with the 1st Garrison Battalion, the Royal Irish Rifles followed by a posting to the 2nd/1st Gurkhas at Dharm Sala in the Punjab, August - October 1916, and then to the 1st/6th Gurkhas (Abbottabad Brigade) with whom he saw service on the frontier in Rawal Pindi, October 1916 - March 1917 and in Mesopotamia, March 1917 - November 1918 as lines of communication troops, after which they were posted to Enzeli on the Caspian Sea, December 1918 - February 1919, from where he was ordered home for demobilisation, arriving in April 1919 but as he saw no action his writings mainly describe the scenery, his shooting and other recreations, the troops under his command, and his views on the Arab, Indian, Persian and Russian civilians he met.
