Content description
Two sub files of correspondence with the Ministry of Supply regarding loan and gifts to and from the Museum. Consists of:
1) Contains five sub-files of correspondence regarding particular gifts of loans. Consists of:
1- Exhibition of German Electronic Equipment: Arrangements for gift to Museum of models of various types of German Electronic equipment for display, guidebook to previous exhibition of models at Earls Court, supply of information to Museum regarding German electrical equipment, gift of plans etc of equipment to Museum.
2- Armaments Inspection Department: Gift to department of bag of lances and swords from the Museum, request for information on exhibits, donation of firearms to the Museum, suggestions of places to obtain weapons and ammunition, captions for photographs, lists weapons desired by Museum, image of Flak Gun.
3- Lancaster Aircraft: Correspondence regarding possibility of Ministry of Supply continuing to store a Lancaster fuselage for the Museum.
4- Armament Design Department: Correspondence regarding gift of projectiles to Museum, request for department's research files, donation of medal ribbons, attempts to arrange visit to Fort Halstead research centre to pick exhibits for the Museum.
5- Armoured Fighting Vehicles: Correpondence regarding donation of photographs of vehicles to the Museum, donation of German demolition vehicle 'Goliath' to Museum, visit to depot to see vehicles.
2) Contains seven sub-files relating to the loan of gift of specific items in or out of the Museum. Consists of:
1- Landscape Targets required by War Office: Correspondence arranging meeting so that the Museum can help with the design of new landscape targets required by the War Office. Later thanks for photographs given to the Ministry.
2- Guns at Krupps, Essen: Enquiry to Museum from the Ministry regarding whether it wants to acquire any guns held at Krupps, Essen, with Museum's refusal. List of guns offered.
3- Model of Bailey Bridge/ Bailey Bridge Panel: Correspondence regarding donation of Bailey Bridge Panel to the Museum, offer of other bridging material which was declined, donation of a book on bridging, and attempts to find model of the Bailey bridge.
4- Optical Instruments Offered by IWM for Use in the Services: Museums offer of optical instrument exhibits to Ministry of Supply for use in the war effort, and later correspondence regarding use of other instruments to the Ministry.
5- V Weapons: Correspondence regarding the possibility of obtaining both a V1 and a V2 for the Museum.
6- Director General of Machine Tools: Correspondence with Director of Machine Tools regarding arranging visits to factories to view possible exhibits, attempts to locate particular machines, leaflets for possible exhibits.
7- Jerricans: Correspondence regarding donation of jerricans to the Museum, and regarding history of them for exhibit captions.
